JAG MINNS… I REMEMBER…

Ongoing research project.

Fashion is often seen as forward gazing; the new is what drives fashion forward. Memory, on the contrary, recollects the passed. Garments - here viewed as the specific and concrete expressions of fashion - are the material connection between the past and present.

This research project is interested in fashion’s and clothes relationship to memory; how individual- specific- memories can transcend into a work that is about everyone. By collecting multiple individual memories, and in time join them together side by side, the aim is to build a collective memory bank connected to clothes, where each memory contribute in painting a larger picture of the roles clothes have on us.

Memories of clothes, styles, trends or appearances will lay as a foundation for this research project. I invite you to take a trip down memory lane, and recollect a memory where garments have been a key player. This can for example be how we remember what we wore on specific occasions or the way clothes felt or smelled like. It can be memories of when clothes felt wrong - or just right.
